VA Science Olympiad: An organization that engages students in grades 3-6 in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through various levels of team-based tournaments. Students meet on weekends and evenings to design and create projects, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and conduct research on a variety of topics.
Spanish Language Programs: GFES PTA partners with the Children’s Center for Language and Culture (ChiCeLaCu) to offer a before-school Spanish Language Immersion program. Reflections: A national PTA program encouraging students to explore the arts and express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Students K through 12 create theme-based artwork in dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography or visual arts.
COT: Change of Transportation (COT) is a program that allows students to ride home on a friend's bus. COT is limited to no more than twice a month, per student, and is managed via email by parent volunteers. firstname.lastname@example.org
Art Enrichment: A fun, rewarding and educational program that supplements our students’ already extensive art education with parent-led projects throughout the school year. Classes in every grade study 6 artists and produce their own version of the technique and style examined in class. Projects are displayed in the hallways throughout our school.
Critical Thinking Labs: GFES PTA sponsors, manages and leads critical thinking labs for children in all grades. These grade-wide events are taught by parent volunteers and focus on the nine critical thinking skills introduced in the classroom.
After School Programs (ASP) - GFES PTA partners with FLEX academies to provide 3 sessions of a wide variety of quality, safe after-school activities for students of all ages. ASP classes take place at GFES the hour directly after school.
Play: Students in grades 5-6 are invited to participate in a creative theatre production! GFES PTA partners with Educational Theatre Company to produce an original play based on classic works of literature and drama. During the ETC “residency” students work with ETC’s professional Teaching Artists to develop the script, design and create costumes, props and other scenic elements, culminating in a performance.
Girls On The Run (GOTR) learn. dream. live. run. By using a curriculum that creatively integrates running with life lessons, Girls On The Run supports girls in developing the confidence and character they need to become strong and healthy young adults.
